Parsha Lech Lecha Discussion Questions

In honor of  recently beginning the Torah again, we have  launched our Book of Bereshit (Genesis) Engagement Project.

For the next 3 months, as we read from the Book of Bereshit,  every week we will be posting discussion questions that we hope families will use to discuss the Torah portion over Shabbat, as well as either a video D’var Torah or a unique Camp Ramah parsha quiz.

This week’s discussion questions were  developed by this past summer’s Machon campers, when they were in Shoafim.   We encourage you to post any of your family’s answers to the questions in the comments section below.

• What do you think went through Avram’s head when he heard God talking to him for the first time? What would you have done if you were Avram?

• Why did Sarai follow all of the decisions that Avram made? Do you think that she believed in God also or that she just went with Avram because he was her husband?

• What do you think it may have felt like to be the first Jews?

• Avram lied to Pharaoh saying that Sarai was his sister. Under what circumstances is it ok to lie?

• Where is Lot in the rest of the parsha? After they go down to Egypt, only Avram and Sarai are mentioned. Do you think he was still with them?
