Parsha Terumah Discussion Questions

As we read from the Book of Shmot, every week we will be posting discussion questions that we hope families will use to discuss the Torah portion over Shabbat.

This week’s discussion questions were developed by this past summer’s Machon campers, when they were in Shoafim.   We encourage you to post any of your family’s answers to the questions in the comments section below.

Parsha Terumah Discussion Questions

Developed by Shoshi Levenson, Talia Weseley, and Ryan Siegel

  • God told the Israelites to build an alter so that God could dwell amongst the Israelites.  What do you think it means for God to dwell among people?  Have you ever felt God?
  • Why do you think the menorah is made of one solid piece of gold, while everything else is made of acacia wood which was then layered with gold?
  • Why did every measurement of the Mishkan have to be exactly precise?  Why do you think it mattered to God that the building of the Mishkan was so specific?
  • If you were an Israelite, how would you feel about having to give up all of your precious items for the building of the Mishkan?  Have you ever had to give up something of yours for a greater cause?
  • What do you think the community may have done if there were people who didn’t have money or strength to contribute to the cause?  How do we treat those in our community who may be less fortunate?
