Alternative Tefilla Part One: Jewish Journey Nature Walk, Traditional Minyan and Women & Judaism

One of the special tefilla experiences here at our machaneh (camp) is the weekly opportunity to attend an alternative daily minyan on Tzad Bet (B-Side).  Our Tzevet (staff) members are invited to lead a minyan according to their special expertise, interest and focus.  And the chanichim (campers) are free to choose which to attend, affording them a special new way to approach, participate in, and engage with our age-old liturgy.  Some examples from this past Friday are featured here.  Bonus questions: which one would you attend if you had the privilege of being a chanich? and which Alternative minyan would you lead if you had the privilege of serving on our tzevet?

Traditional Minyan:  For a Minyan with some classic tunes and prayers, come to the Bet Knesset for a Ruach filled Shacharit.

Women and Judaism Rosh Chodesh Group: with Rachel Coll;  Come explore Rosh Chodesh and its significance to women, and chat about women’s roles at camp and in Tfilah.  Many of the chanichim chose Ruth Bader Ginsburg as one of their most inspiring role models.

Jewish Journey Nature Walk: with Rabbi Hillel Greene;  Join us on a nature walk of our beautiful machaneh as we explore our connections to spirituality and the world around us.

One of the participants described the Walk: “For our tefillah nature walk this morning we reflected on the nature around us and the individual connection we have with nature at camp. We focused on the beautiful scenery and the sounds around us as we walked to the treehouse to culminate in a check in about our neshamas.”  A portion of the walk was a climb of the machaneh treehouse.
