Beit Midrash- a Tisha B’av Conversation

This morning chanichim (campers) who are part of the Limmud (Jewish learning) Beit Medrash program headed by our Rosh Beit Medrash Dr. Joshua Kulp, had the opportunity to engage in a very interesting discussion about Israeli and American Jewish Identity. The conversation was begun with Josh reading a part of a speech from Aleph Bet Yehoshua discussing the differences in how an Israeli and an American might identify as Jews. The conversation went on to delve deeper into what it means to be part of diaspora Jewry and how we express our Jewishness in the places that we choose to live. The discussion was very much connected to Tisha B’av as it was this time in Jewish history that many of the Jews were exiled and began to create their communities outside of the land of Israel.
