Expansion in DC Area Day Camp

Five years into the life of Ramah Day Camp of Greater Washington, our emerging community is growing even bigger in 2019. We’re expanding the length of our summer, the size of our community, and the depth of our program.

Session: What started as a one-week end-of-summer pilot program in 2014 became a full 4-week summer session, and expanded in 2016 to six weeks. Now we are excited to be offering a full 7-week summer opportunity for 300 campers entering kindergarten through 5th grade on our beautiful 200-acre campus in Germantown, MD.

Edot: As the camp’s season extends and more campers enroll, we are also expanding our edah (age group) divisions. Since camp’s inception, campers have been grouped in two-grade edot, exploring our campus and programming in groups of 30-70 campers across two grades:

K-1: Shorashim

2-3: Garinim

4-5: Nitzanim

After a record sized Shorashim in 2018, we are excited to be splitting our kindergarteners and first graders into two edot, and we are calling on our camp community to help us name the new edah. Program: Finally, one of the cornerstones of our program is our lush outdoor space, adventurous woods, and spacious hands-on garden. Our Teva program, in partnership with Ifshin Gardens, invites campers to work in our permaculture garden and use our property for foraging, shelter building, and wildlife discovery. This year we’ll be adding an herbalism experience to our teva program, in which campers will learn to make teas, balms, and other food and cosmetics from foraged items in our environment.
