Mazel Tov to Jared Duker Lichtman

Camper Jared Duker Lichtman, Machon for summer 5771, qualified for the first Yad Shel Chai award given out during the current hazzan's tenure.  The Yad Shel Chai, a project of the Federation of Jewish Mens' Clubs (Conservative movement), recognizes Torah readers who read at least 18 times after bar / bas mitzvah and before high school graduation.  Jared has read Torah 32 times since his bar mitzvah.  He has read at Palmer during the 3 summers he has attended, since his bar mitzvah.  The Hazzan noted that he has also read at the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington and singled that out for praise.  Hazzan Abraham Lubin of Congregation Beth El of Mongtomery County made the award to Jared (and another teen with many fewer readings — who doesn't go to Ramah — got the 2nd one ) at services 12 February 2011 / 8  Adar Aleph 5771.  Jared and his father both read Torah that morning.  Hazzan Lubin, a past president of the Cantors' Assembly and winner of various awards from that organization, came to Beth El in 1990 and will retire in June.
