Parsha Miketz Discussion Questions

As part of our Book of Bereshit (Genesis) Engagement Project, as we read from the Book of Bereshit,  every week we will be posting discussion questions that we hope families will use to discuss the Torah portion over Shabbat, as well as a video D’var Torah.

This week’s discussion questions were  developed by this past summer’s Machon campers, when they were in Shoafim.   We encourage you to post any of your family’s answers to the questions in the comments section below.

  • Why couldn’t anyone interpret Pharaoh’s dreams? Do you think there was something special about Joseph that made him able to interpret Pharaoh’s dreams?
  • How might you have interpreted his dreams?
  • What is significant about the number seven? Why did this number come up in both dreams? Where else in Judaism is the number seven important?
  • Why do you think the butler waited so long to help Joseph get out of jail?
  • Why was Joseph raised up by God after the bad events in his life?
  • Why did the bad years come after the good years and not the other way around?
