Parsha Yitro Discussion Questions

As we read from the Book of Shmot, every week we will be posting discussion questions that we hope families will use to discuss the Torah portion over Shabbat.

This week’s discussion questions were developed by this past summer’s Machon campers, when they were in Shoafim.   We encourage you to post any of your family’s answers to the questions in the comments section below.

Parsha Yitro Discussion Questions

Developed by Sam Paster, Eve Stein, Stephanie Gold, and Eli Rachlin

  • If you were Moshe, would you seek advice from Yitro about the people you were leading?  What do you think was useful to Moshe about talking to Yitro regarding what the Israelites were going through at the time? Who do you seek out advice from?
  • Why do you think God spoke to Moshe, alone, on top of the mountain and not where the rest of B’nei Yisrael was?
  • The children of Israel were scared for God to talk to them because God’s presence was so powerful.  How would you feel if God was going to talk to you? What do you think the experience would be like?
  • Do you think God meant to scare the people of Israel?
  • God appeared to the Israelites, and made God’s presence known, in many different ways.  What do you imagine God’s presence would be like?
