The Roos Win the Day!

This past Tuesday, our Magshimim and Bogrim edot (edot) trekked out to Wingdale, NY to compete in Yom Roo – our annual day of sports competition against Camp Ramah in the Berkshires. Overall, we won this “JV” day of competition 8-2. It was a great victory for the Palmer Fighting Roos!

We won: Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Tennis, Ultimate, Soccer, Girls Basketball, Swim, Scrabble

We lost: Volleyball, Softball

Before heading out to Camp Ramah in the Berkshires, the ruach (spirit) was high in Palmer. At the end of Aruchat Boker (breakfast), our Magshimim and Bogrim chanichim (campers) joined together in a spirited rendition of our Roo Fight Song (see below for the lyrics).

Roo Fight Song

When it comes to Ramah Camps

If you ever had to choose

The choice would be obvious

With the Palmer Fighting Roos (Roo! Roo! Roo!)

 From A-side to B-side

The ROO-ach leads the way

So go! (fight!) go! (fight!) go! (fight!) go! (fight!)

Roos will win the day!

For a few years now, the Palmer Fighting Roo has been the official mascot of Camp Ramah in New England. In the summer of 2013, a few veteran madrichim saw the close connection between the Hebrew word ruach, meaning spirit, and a kangaroo. Now, we don’t just have tons of Ruach at Camp Ramah, we have ROO-ach! We are looking forward to hosting the second session Yom Roo next mahzor (session) in Palmer where both our JV and Varsity teams will compete.

Go Roos!
