A Tale of Two Cities

This session in “Limmud,” campers have had classes and activities connected to both of Israel’s important cities – Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. A visual reflection on the two cities can be found in the two collaborative paper murals that the campers have created to decorate the outside of the Cafe Ramah building. One side of the wall evokes the street art that is now very popular throughout various neighborhoods in Tel Aviv and speaks to the city’s vibrant, modern, and “edgy” character. The other side of our wall depicts the characteristic domes, arches, walls, and stones of the city of Jerusalem. The diversity of Israeli society has been the main theme of this session and this artwork is just a small insight into the complexities of the traditional and innovative, secular and religious, modern and ancient cultures that are all a part of what makes up the people of Israel.
