Tefilla (prayer): Hallelujah! Adat ha-Kochavim

What a great start to the morning for these chanichim (campers) in our youngest edah, adat ha-Kochavim.  The Tzevet (staff) led a robust, participatory and fun tefillah that engaged the chanichim in many different ways: through song, movement, and art.  Here the chanichim are marching to the “Baruch SheAmar” prayer with their special (imaginary) Marching Boots on:

Tzevet members Tami Arnowitz from Limud (Education) and Rosh Edah Sarah Binney inspire and guide the chanichim in the liturgy:

Approaching the Hallelujah prayer (Psalm 150, text below), the chanichim pause to create their own musical instruments, personalized rattles, to accompany the joyful prayer.  Their art reflects something for which they are grateful.

And here the chanichim are chanting Psalm 150, accompanying this joyous prayer with their brand-new, hand-crafted rattles:

Preceding the Shema we chant Or Hadash, making the shape of the sun with their arms while singing robustly:

Don’t forget to put out your laundry! Clean sheets! Yeah!

Translation:

Hallelujah.
Praise God in His sanctuary; praise Him in the firmament of His power.
Praise Him for His mighty acts; praise Him according to His abundant greatness.
Praise Him with the blast of the horn; praise Him with the psaltery and harp.
Praise Him with the timbrel and dance; praise Him with stringed instruments and the pipe.
Praise Him with the loud-sounding cymbals; praise Him with the clanging cymbals.
Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord.
