Tikvah Director Howard Blas delivered a presentation on November 2, 2009 at Yale University’s Child Study center, entitled Bar and Bat Mitzvah Preparation for Children with Developmental Disabilities.”  Howard was invited to give the 90 minute presentation by Dr. Andres Martin, Yale child psychiatrist and consultant to Camp Ramah in New England.

In addition to Howard’s power point slides and video clips of bar and bat mitzvahs of Tikvah campers, the medical students and child psychiatrists and psychologists heard presentations from Jakie Pearson, former Amitzim camper and Voc-Eder (and bar mitzvah student of Howard Blas) and from Ben Yellin, father of long time Voc Eder, Jacob Yellin.  Tikvah and Yale have a long history of friendship and collaboration.  Drs. Donald Cohen (z”l) and Phyllis Cohen served as consultants to the Tikvah Program during Herb and Barbara Greenberg’s long tenure as Tikvah directors, and Dr. Martin has served as a consultant to Ramah New England and Tikvah for many years, and he is now a proud CRNE parent!
