Shoafim Yom App, Part 1: On the Road Again
Shoafim spent the day today participating in activities and playing games relating to various “Apps” (short for “Applications” on iPhones) in an effort to explore how technology affects our ability to live Jewishly observant lives. Beginning with developing their own iSiddurim in the morning, the chanichim discussed what t’filot (prayers) they would want to take “on the road” with them when they travel and what would be handy to have with them wherever they go.
After aruchat boker (breakfast) and nikayon (cleaning), we began our first activity: Car Racing. Divided by their tzrifim (bunks), the Shoafimers discussed different ways of observing Shabbat and alternatives that we may use to riding in cars on that day of rest. After thinking of various possibilities, each tzrif decorated its very own car (or cardboard box)!
Once they finished, the tzrifim lined up as teams and raced their cars through an obstacle course. Jumping over obstacles and running around trees, the teams raced to the finish line. Although Tzrif 35 won, all of the chanichim really impressed us with their vigor and enthusiasm!
