Machon and Amitzim machazemer (musical) was supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!

Machon and Amitizim’s fun, high-spirited , joyous and beautifully executed production of Mary Poppins was a fantastic end to our Tzad Bet drama season.  Both edot worked very hard together and separately to learn the songs, dances, lines and staging. In addition to the amazing actors and dancers, the show featured a Machon band and a stage crew who made set changes look easy.

The Machon-Amitizim production is a fully integrated show.  There were two actors playing Mary Poppins, Bert and Mr. Banks (one from each Edah) and instead of two children, the Banks family had 7 children (five from Machon and two from Amitzim). These actors were on stage for the majority of the production. There were three full Edah dance and song numbers:  A Spoonful of Sugar, Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, and Let’s Go Fly a Kite performed jointly by Machon and Amitizim.  Each Amitzim chanich (camper) was paired with a Machon buddy.  Additionally, there were three optional dances that featured chanichim (campers) from both Edot.  And, of course, just as in the movie our magical world contain penguins and dancing chimney sweeps, although our magical world was set at the agam (lake) and the pictures that the children, Mary and Bert jump through were created during a joint Machon/Amitzim peulah (activity).

As with all of our machazemerim (musicals), all of the songs were in Ivrit (Hebrew).  However, in this production, in order to be as inclusive as possible, chanichim (campers) who wanted to be in the show but couldn’t memorize Ivrit were allowed to say a few lines in English. While our goal is to use Ivrit as much as possible, we also wanted to make sure that we showcased talent from both Edot.

It was a truly magical evening!
