A Great Final Yom Meyuchad of Kayitz 2025!

A group of teenagers wearing yellow shirts and denim shorts perform energetically on stage under bright lights, some singing and dancing, with an enthusiastic audience visible in the foreground.

Most Wednesdays here at camp are what we call a Yom Meyuchad.  Our mumchim (adult specialty staff), along with some counselors, have the day off, so instead of running our regular schedule, we run all sorts of special fun programming.

We tried our best to really pack in the fun here at camp today, with lots of special programming happening across camp.

We were thrilled to host Vassar College’s Men’s head basketball coach, Ryan Mee, at camp today — Coach Mee ran special basketball clinics for our JV and Varsity Roo teams as well as campers in Solelim, Shoafim and Tikvah.  Click here to read more!

In the middle of the day we had our Glidah Gladness party, with ice cream for all of our chanichim (campers!)

Two smiling girls stand outdoors at a camp, holding bowls of ice cream with toppings. They wear casual summer clothes and backpacks, with cabins and tall trees in the background.Children smile at the camera while holding bowls of ice cream at a long table indoors. Other kids wait in line in the background. The atmosphere appears lively and festive.

In the afternoon was the annual Shapell Classic softball game, played in memory of Tikvah camper Jake Shapell z”l.  It was so fun to see campers and staff from across camp playing and watching this softball game, along with players from our Tikvah programs!

A white banner on a fence reads, The Annual Shapell Classic. Remembering our Tikvah & Camp friend, Jake Shapell (zl), with a drawing of red Boston Red Sox socks below the text. A tennis ball lies on the grass nearby.A young batter swings at a pitch during a baseball game at a camp. Campers and staff watch from the sidelines and from porches of wooden cabins in the background, surrounded by trees.A group of kids and teens, some wearing helmets, stand in a line on a dirt field near cabins, looking up at something in the sky at a summer camp. There are trees and sports equipment in the background.A person swings a red bat at a yellow ball on a dirt baseball field surrounded by grass, trees, cabins, and a large crowd of people watching in the background.

I ran an It’s a Good Life Chug Seder for the Shoafimers in my silly chug, in which we walked through all the steps of the Seder, albeit with twizzlers and blue drink!

A large group of smiling kids sits around a long table under a tent, holding up cups as if toasting. The table has papers, snacks, and drinks, and a wooden deck and buildings are visible in the background.A group of kids sitting at a long outdoor table under a canopy, smiling and holding cups with blue drinks, surrounded by trees and a cabin in the background.

A highlight of the day was the incredible NIVONIM machazemer: Despicable Me!!  The Nivonimers put on an incredible show!!  We’ll have the footage available soon — we can’t wait for you to see their incredible performance.

Children perform a play on stage; one child stands center, one enters from a door, two kneel left, and one runs right. The backdrop features red handprints, a red monster, and the words “Despicable Me.”.A group of people wearing colorful clothes, mostly yellow shirts, hold hands and dance in a circle on a stage with stairs. Stage lights shine above them, and there is a white backdrop with some decorations.

After the machazemer, I joined adat ha-MACHON to open the time capsule they’d created at the end of their Bogrim kayitz.  I’ve been keeping it safe for them.  (I am the keeper of many time capsules here at camp!!)  It was a pleasure getting to watch the kids’ joyous reactions to read their time capsule letters to themselves.  The kids got a little emotional when Tova Gelb, Rosh Machon, read the letters that their Bogrim madrichim/ot (counselors) had written to them.  This was a special moment.

What a great day here at camp!
