A New Chug for Kayitz 2024 – Music Production Chug!
Pamela Kekst, our Assistant Director, shares:
Each year, we work to find ways to enhance our program offerings, and kayitz 2024 is no exception! This machzor (session), we introduced a new chug (elective) offering – music production. Yuval Rosen, the chug leader, has set up a small studio in one our camp classrooms, complete with soundproofing! There are multiple recording stations inside, where campers can gather around to work on creating music.
Using instruments, software, and recordings of their voices, they layer tracks together to create original pieces of music!
For Tzad Aleph (A-Side) campers, small groups are picking a song, and then using audio loops to layer together the song and instruments. Yuval works with each group to make artistic decisions together. Kochavim and Ilanot have picked “Od Yavo Shalom Aleinu.” One group even wrote and recorded their own rap to interject into a song!
Tzad Bet (B-Side) campers are playing and recording their own instrumental performances, in addition to recording their voices and then layering the pieces together. Maggie, a Bogrim camper, says that “it’s really fun to collaborate and create music together.” Machon is creating a completely original piece with instrumentals written by Shai Hurwitz. All the campers can experience wearing headphones, recording their performances on the computer, and using the software to assemble the components together into a unified piece of music.
“We’ve worked hard at something and it’s finally coming together” – Eli, Bogrim camper.
We can’t wait to share the final products with the campers at the end of the session!
