Campers Create a New Borei Nefashot Sign for the Chadar Ochel!
Vered Laness, our Rosh Omanut, shares:
Hadas Binstock from Machon participated a lot in our omanut (art) activities over the summer, so we offered her the chance to lead a camp-wide art project, and she was thrilled to do it!
The project was to create two new signs in Hebrew with Bracha Achronah, specifically the Borei Nefashot blessing, for the Chadar Ochel (Dining Hall).
When we eat bread and make ha-Motzei, we end our meals by singing Birkat Hamazon together. We have kartisim (cards) with the words to Birkat that we pass out, and we also project the words on our large screen. When we don’t eat bread, we say a different blessing at the start of the meal: either mezonot or shehakol. For those meals, we then do the shorter Bracha Achronah or just the Borei Nefashot blessing at the end. We have one large sign with the words hanging in the Chadar Ochel, but we felt we needed more so that all campers could easily see it and join in the bracha!
Hadas led a group of other campers and friends in helping her out to create the new signs.
Hadas shared how she felt about the project: “It was exciting to be able to help out the camp in such a meaningful way.I had a lot of fun planning it out, but it was challenging to measure everything out and to try and make it as neat as possible. I had a lot of fun; it was fun leading other people and my friends who helped me with it. They were a huge help…!”
We love giving campers these sorts of opportunities to step out and do great things at camp. If you can do it at camp, you can do anything in ‘real life.’
Todah rabbah and kol hakavod to Hadas and all her friends for their great work on this project!
