Introducing Our New Board Members

Lawrence (Larry) Kaplan, North Bethesda, MD: Larry is a financial services attorney in Washington, DC, and an Associate Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Michigan Law School. He graduated from the University of Michigan and received a law degree from George Washington University. Larry serves on the Board of Directors of the Federation of Greater Washington and the FAN Board of BBYO and is the BBYO representative to the Penn Family Charity. Larry has three children who attended Camp Ramah New England (CRNE); two of them attended through Nivonim and worked as counselors.

Kenneth (Ken) Baer, Bethesda, MD: Ken has worked at the intersection of policy, politics, ideas and communications and now leads Crosscut Strategies LLC. Under his leadership, Crosscut has become the premiere firm for digital health companies. Ken graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and received a doctorate from Oxford University. Ken is the President of the Board of Directors of Penn Hillel. He is an alum of Camp Ramah in the Poconos and his two children are CRNE campers.

Sara Shapiro-Plevan, New York, NY: Sara is the founder and CEO of the Gender Equity in Hiring Project and the founder of Rimonim Consulting. Sara examines the ways gender, power and privilege affect the Jewish workplace. Sara graduated from Brandeis University and holds an EdD and an MA from the Davidson School of the Jewish Theological Seminary. Sara is part of a three-generation Ramah family; her father attended several Ramah camps, including CRNE, and both she and her son are CRNE alumni.

Mindy Sosland, Washington, DC: Mindy is on the staff of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s Mid-Atlantic Chapter, working with the leadership giving team. She has worked for or consulted to AIPAC, the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Jerusalem, the Embassy of Israel in Washington, DC, and CORE, a nonprofit that focuses on residential education programs for disadvantaged youth. Mindy graduated from the University of Illinois. She served on the board of Milton Gottesman Jewish Day School. Mindy is a Ramah Wisconsin alum and two of her children are CRNE alumni.
