Kishroniyah 2024: Part Two!

A colorful mosaic on a table depicts butterflies, flowers, grass, and faces, with Hebrew text across the top. Tools, cups, and mosaic materials are visible around the artwork.

Kishroniyah is one of our centerpiece programs for our Tzad Bet (B-Side) chanichim/ot (campers)!

Click here to read PART ONE of this blog, in which we looked at seven of our 2024 Kishroniyah groups. Let’s explore the rest!

Mural: Extraordinary artist Tova Speter works her magic with our campers each year to create a stunning work of art, an enormous outdoor mural. Tova’s previous Kishroniyah murals are an integral part of the beauty of our camp! This year’s gorgeous mural is another incredible achievement. Tova worked with the participants to weave in aspects of this summer’s Shema educational theme with other elements of camp that are important and meaningful to the kids. We can’t wait to show you the finished product very soon!

A group of thirteen smiling teens pose together indoors against a colorful, painted wall. Most are wearing casual shorts and t-shirts with different logos, and they appear happy and relaxed.A group of young women stand around a large, colorful painted mural under a white canopy tent, listening to an instructor who gestures with her hand. Trees and picnic tables are visible in the background.

Robotics: Expert Phil Glick teaches participants to use Lego Mindstorm robot kits to build different styles of robots! The campers learn how to use the software to program and control their robots, and then see what they can do as they challenge each other in obstacle courses and other competitions.

A young person with curly hair, wearing a white hoodie and black shorts, sits on a wooden bench by a window, holding a robot made of LEGO parts. A laptop and more LEGO pieces are nearby. An adult and a child work together inside a wooden room. The child holds a robotic device while the adult, standing beside him, handles wires and equipment. Tables and benches are visible in the background.

Steampunkinetics: Steampunk art and design is the fusion of history, art, and technology, repurposing and infusing modern technology into period antiques and salvage objects to create authentic, relevant, functional, fantastical and personal one-of-kind objects and spaces. This year, artist Bruce Rosenbaum led the participants in creating a brand new type of project: a solar-powered vertical garden designed to fight climate change!

Six people, mostly teens, sit and smile at a picnic table under a tent, working on a project with papers and pencils. An adult stands behind them next to a wooden pallet. A bicycle and parked cars are in the background.Three teenage boys stand outdoors next to a wooden pallet garden filled with small plants. They are smiling and casually dressed in athletic clothing, under a tent with trees visible in the background.

Ultimate Frisbee: The father and son team of Rick and Alex Atkins are among the very best ultimate frisbee coaches (Rick) and players (Alex) in the country! (Alex is one of the very few frisbee players who has their own signature disc, created by the UFA, the Ultimate Frisbee Association!)

Camping Trip (for Machon/Nivonim only): In this brand-new Kishroniyah offering, participants went off on a thrilling and challenging three-day camping and canoeing adventure trip!

Podcasting (for Machon/Nivonim only): Podcaster, and creator/host of the “Who Knows One?” Jewish geography game show, Micah Hart, taught participants all about the art of podcasting! The campers divided into groups and were each able to create, produce and record their own podcast! We’ll be sharing their wonderful work here soon.

Lifeguard Certification (for Nivonim only): We continued the tradition of offering to eligible Nivonimers (participants have to be 16 years old) the opportunity to get trained and certified as lifeguards! This is a rigorous course and our campers were incredibly diligent and hard-working. All twelve participants passed the course! We’re so proud of them!

It’s truly been a special week on Tzad Bet!
