Machon Perek Limud (Education Session)

In preparation for and anticipation of Shabbat this past Friday, our Tzevet Limud (Education Staff) presented a two-part Perek Limud that included rich educational, participatory and gustatory elements.  Pictured above and below are chanichim (campers) from Machon.  The edah (division) was split into two groups.  One group listened to and discussed explanations of the many aspects of Challah — including the ingredients and preparation process, the connection with the Parsha (Torah portion) Shelach (see the relevant verse, below) and various halachot and midrashim about Challah.   Along with our chanichim, Tzevet members Tami Arnowitz and Rabbi Gordon Tucker, below:

The other group prepared (and subsequently consumed) actual delicious mini-challot, some of which included exotic ingredients such as chocolate chips.  And of course, the groups then switched so all the chanichim participated in both parts of the Perek.  Along with the chanichim, our Tzevet members Gila Ben David Stone, Phil Schlossberg, Josh Kulp, and Rabbi Josh Ackerman, are pictured below:

Numbers 15:20:

כ  רֵאשִׁית, עֲרִסֹתֵכֶם–חַלָּה, תָּרִימוּ תְרוּמָה:  כִּתְרוּמַת גֹּרֶן, כֵּן תָּרִימוּ אֹתָהּ. 20 Of the first of your dough ye shall set apart a cake for a gift; as that which is set apart of the threshing-floor, so shall ye set it apart.
