At Ellis Island, our hanichim/campers were fully engaged in the immigrant experience.  Sam was so into it, he told his madrich/counselor, Daniel, that he was amazed that many of our families had stood where we were standing.
Many of the hanichim were particularly interested in the Jewish immigarnt experience and they were excited to see Hebrew signs in many of the exhibits.

When we were on the third floor, Evan, Simon, Ethan and Bess brought me over to an exhibit on Religion because they were excited to show me an old siddur/prayer book and pair of teffilin.

Later in the day, we split into small groups and walked around Chinatown and Little Italy before heading back to Ramaz for the night.  My group had so much fun just hanging out.  Sofia introduced me to bubble tea, which is totally awesome;  Simon and Matt were amazed at how easily they could buy neck-ties on the street; Leizer and I searched high and low for lemonade, which we eventually did track down; Suzanne and Roni found bliss at Haagen Daz. And Eliana bought herself a pair of futuristic sunglases.

Stay tuned for more updates from the Big Apple!
