Social Media Recommendations

Shalom Ramah Parents,

We are in very difficult and troubling times and pray for the safety of our people. We have many campers, staff and family in Israel and many of us will be personally impacted by the terror events of the past few days and the subsequent military operations. We send our love and support to all of them and are here if anyone would like to reach out and talk or need anything from us.

We have seen from several day schools emails sharing the following (we cannot verify the source but felt it was important nevertheless): We have been informed that the Israeli government is urging Israeli parents to delete Instagram and TikTok from their children’s phones, as terrorists are expected to release distressing videos of torture and execution of civilian hostages. It is likely that the terrorists will leverage social media algorithms to have these horrific videos shown to those who follow Jewish or Israeli influencers, as the intention of the terrorists is to unleash psychological warfare on Israelis—and on Jews worldwide.

The Israeli government has asked us to do the following:

  • Absolutely do not share these videos or photos.
  • Absolutely prevent your children (and yourselves!) from watching them; they are not suitable for children and will be terrifying.

If you don’t want your children to see these videos, we are strongly recommending that our campers (as well as adult members of our community) delete social media apps such as TikTok and Instagram at this time.

We are doing our best to keep in contact with our Ramah staff, campers and families in Israel. Our Rosh Mishlachat (head of our Israeli delegation), Rotem, has told us that all messages to them are appreciated and help them feel love, support and that they matter.

We will send updates and information as appropriate.

ה׳ עֹז לְעַמּוֹ יִתֵּן ה׳ יְבָרֵךְ אֶת עַמּוֹ בַשָּׁלוֹם
May God grant strength to our people;
May God bestow our people with peace.

, כל טוב(all the best)
