Sports Update: Thrills and Triumphs of Second Session!
Our Rosh Sport, Julia Harvey, shares this update:
As we continue through an exciting second session here at Camp Ramah New England, we’re excited to share the latest highlights and updates from our bustling sports scene. Our campers are immersed in a multitude of athletic activities, with over 15 different chugim (electives) underway. From high-energy team sports to focused individual challenges, there’s something for every camper to enjoy and excel in! Whether it be soccer, flag football, rhythmic gymnastics, or even juggling, each sport is led by a dedicated coach.
Varsity Basketball Triumph
Let’s start with a big shout-out to our Varsity Boys Basketball team! They’ve been on fire this month, competing in multiple tournaments with great success. On Monday, they emerged victorious at the Yavneh Basketball Tournament in New Hampshire. Camp Ramah finished first in a double-elimination tournament, remaining undefeated in games against Camps Tel Noar, Yavneh, Bauercrest, and Tevya. Our campers showcased their skills and sportsmanship, earning a trophy to prove it. Congratulations to all the players and coaches for their hard work and dedication!
Meet Coach Morgan McCrea
We have been honored to have Coach Morgan McCrea at Camp Ramah for the last two weeks. As the assistant women’s basketball coach at Vassar College, where she recently led her team to a Liberty League Championship, Coach McCrea has brought a wealth of experience and enthusiasm. With a standout collegiate career that includes All-Conference honors and advanced degrees in Sport Management and Business Administration, Coach McCrea has excitedly shared her expertise with our campers, elevating their game and improving their skills. Her presence is inspiring to all of our basketball enthusiasts and adds a new level of excitement to our courts.
Roo Teams in Full Prep Mode
Our dedicated Roo teams are hard at work, gearing up for the much-anticipated Yom Roo event at Camp Ramah in the Berkshires this Sunday. Our Roo team coaches – including numerous college athletes and even some professional coaches – have worked tirelessly to prepare each team with the skills necessary to repeat our first session success against Berkshires. With all 14 varsity teams and 11 junior varsity teams preparing for the competition, the energy is palpable. This Friday, each Roo team will participate in a special bonding period known as “Bondaroo.” This fun-filled tradition not only helps teams come together but also amplifies the ruach (spirit) that makes Roo so special. The sense of camaraderie and excitement is building, and we can’t wait to see their hard work pay off! We look forward to sharing updates on this thrilling day.
Kishroniyah Basketball Training
Last week, our Tzad Bet (B-Side) campers had the unique opportunity to participate in elite-level training sessions conducted by the Basketball Stars of New York (BSNY) through our Kishroniyah programming. This professional-level instruction was a fantastic addition to our sports curriculum, providing campers with valuable skills and insights that will undoubtedly enhance their game. Plus, ask your camper about all the free swag they got from BSNY!
Our Kishroniyah Basketball coaches also ran clinics for our A-Side and Tikvah campers!
We’re incredibly proud of all our athletes and coaches and look forward to you hearing all about it first-hand from your campers. The spirit, teamwork, and enthusiasm at Camp Ramah New England are truly inspiring, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to watch our campers thrive.
