Mishlachat Arrival!
We’ve been waiting and praying, and then, finally, after midnight on Wednesday night, we were overjoyed to welcome 20 incredible schlichim (Israeli Emissaries) from our beloved Mishlachat (Israeli delegation) to camp. Their journey was not an easy one. After navigating long hours of travel, unexpected delays, multiple transfers, and flights that zigzagged across Europe, they finally landed safely in Boston. Tired but smiling, they were met at the airport by members of our senior team, who greeted them with open arms and heartfelt excitement.
As they began the final leg of their journey to camp, a quiet buzz of excitement spread across our site. Our tzevet (staff) sprang into action, making beds for their co-counselors and putting out welcome snacks. Around midnight, we gathered in the O”CH. The moment the bus pulled into camp was nothing short of magical. Cheers erupted, hugs were exchanged, and eyes welled with tears. For those returning, it felt like coming home. For those stepping into this place for the first time, it was clear they were instantly part of something much bigger than themselves.
Veteran Rosh Edah, Tova Gelb, captured the emotions of the moment, sharing, “I feel excited and relieved to have schlichim here.” Rosh Machon, Matan Elul, reflected with moving words: “It was a rough journey, and it feels like the Israeli nation has walked into the holy land.”
In a summer already filled with unexpected challenges, their arrival reminded us just how powerful hope can be for our community and the Jewish people.
Over the next week or so, we will be welcoming about fifty more Israeli campers and staff to camp. They are finding their way to us in many different ways. Everyone is clamoring to come; it’s a great reminder how powerful the Ramah experience is, and how special this place is.
