Yom Meyuchad Fun Across the Edot!

Wednesdays are usually what we call a “Yom Meyuchad”, a Special Day in which all sorts of fun special programming happens across camp!

Today was a particularly exciting Yom Meyuchad!  We had a number of exciting guest-run programming happening today.  Adat ha-Bogrim did a thrilling raft-building competition with specialists from Adventure In/Adventure Out, while interested campers from Ilanot, Solelim, and Shoafim were able to create gorgeous deluxe sock puppets with our visiting puppeteer, Eric Weiss!

A boy in a black shirt and cap holds up a yellow hand puppet with green hair and googly eyes. He stands under a canopy outdoors, with other children visible in the background.A smiling girl with long dark hair stands under a tent, holding a purple sock puppet with green spots and big teeth. She wears a t-shirt with a cat and galaxy design. Outdoor tables and trees are in the background.

In the morning, as is our tradition on Wednesdays, the MiNis (CITs) from adat ha-Nivonim ran fun peulot tzrif (bunk activities) and peulot edah (edah activities) for Tzad Aleph (A-Side) & Tikvah!  For the rest of the day, the madrichim/ot (counselors) planned special Yom Meyuchad activities.  Here are some updates from our Rashei Edot (Division Heads):

Kochavim: Today we had an incredible Yom Superhero which included superhero training courses and each chanich/a (camper) creating their own superhero!

Five young girls pose confidently on a grassy field at camp, striking playful superhero stances with arms outstretched. Other children and camp buildings are visible in the background.

Ilanot: Today was “Yom Candyland”! Events included “guess the Mike and Ike flavor,” a marshmallow race, making your own Candyland character, and building candy towers!  The day finished up with a mystery auction with candy-themed trivia questions and sweet prizes.

A group of children and a young adult sit in a circle on grass, drawing and coloring on paper. Art supplies and drawings are spread out on the ground. The group appears engaged and focused on their creative activity outdoors.Three children play on grass beside a fenced tennis court. One child is standing with arms out, another is facing him in a green shirt, and a third child in a dress sits on the ground, partially visible. Trees are in the background.

Solelim: Yom Willy Wonka was a blast. Solelim started the day with a scavenger hunt looking all over camp for a golden ticket. Upon successfully finding golden tickets, the chanichim/ot created their own model of Wonka’s factory out of candy!

Seven children sit on a wooden deck around a pink cloth, making crafts or snacks with various supplies. They are smiling and looking at the camera, appearing to enjoy the group activity.A group of smiling kids sit on a porch around a pink tablecloth, making crafts together. Trees and a lake are visible in the background, giving the scene a fun and relaxed summer camp vibe.

Shoafim: Today’s Yom Meyuchad was Shoa-Shave, where everyone got a fake beard or moustache — allowing every camper to express their individual style!  Our first activity of the day was braiding and baking challah in Cafe Ramah, where we saw how hairstyles can even be explored when making delicious food.  Then we went to the  amphitheatre, where each chanich/a got a latex-free balloon, and they attached a fake beard/hairpiece on said balloon. Using a comb, they were each able to design their own hairstyle on the balloons, and madrichim awarded their favorite styles!

A child wearing a purple shirt and a yellow cap playfully holds a large fake gray beard to their face. Colorful butterflies and people are illustrated on posters in the background.A boy wearing glasses and a white fake beard sits in front of a colorful illustrated map, holding his hand near his mouth as if mimicking an old man.

Tikvah: The whole edah was so excited to work with Machon to put on Aladdin as our machazemer (play/musical) tonight! Everyone has been looking forward to doing our edah dance and song and perform in front of camp!  Here are two photos of the rehearsals today:

A group of people, mostly in casual summer clothing, stand together on a stage in front of black curtains. One person on the left stands apart, and others appear to be listening or talking among themselves.

Magshimim: We had an awesome “College Game-Yom”!  The chanichim/ot divided into “schools”, and each school worked together to develope a unique identity, host a tailgate, and more! College rivalries were made, face offs hosted, and a good time was had by all!

Bogrim: We had an amazing time doing Yom Survivor! We participated in a raft building competition (run by visiting specialists from AIAO), a fire building race, a mystery auction, and other Survivor TV show-related events!

Machon: We had an incredible day today working with adat ha-Amitzim to put on our machazemer!!  The Machon/Amitzim machazemer came together so nicely. Every role was filled, from the pyramid forming sand dunes to Aladdin and jasmine. It was a play to remember.

Nivonim:  We were so excited for our first day leading peulot for our MiNi (CIT) tzrifim (bunks) this machzor (session)! From fashion shows and soapy ultimate frisbee to “make your own rock machazemer” and goofy gaga, there were so many kef (fun) activities happening across Tzad Aleph and Amitzim!

What a special day this was here at camp!!
