Yom Sport Day One!

A group of excited campers cheer and celebrate near a lake with inflatable water structures in the background on a sunny day. Some raise their arms, and others shout with enthusiasm.

It’s been an incredible first day of Yom Sport! The ruach across camp has been amazing. It’s exciting seeing our Nivonimers stepping up as leaders of camp to run this massive two-day camp-wide event!

Things kicked off with an exciting break-out on the agam.  (If you haven’t yet watched the video of the boat race and break-out, you should do so!)

A group of smiling children sit outdoors on sand, holding up colorful signs, including one that says GO LORI. Many kids are gathered behind them, some under a tent, watching an event.A group of young adults sit together outdoors on bleachers at a camp event, smiling and relaxing under a sunny sky with tents and trees in the background.

After team meetings, the kids spread across camp for the camp-wide relay race, stretching from the Tzad Aleph lower migrash (field) all the way to our Alpine Tower in Machane Gimel!  It was fun seeing the kids’ energy and enthusiasm as they competed in all sorts of silly and challenging events across camp!

A group of teens in red outfits, some in tutus, excitedly run past a seated crowd on a grassy field with trees and buildings in the background, likely at a summer camp or outdoor event. Two smiling kids wearing green clothes and face paint stand arm-in-arm in front of a building, surrounded by a group of children dressed in green, appearing to celebrate or enjoy an event together outdoors.

Then, as is our tradition, the team captains competed in a series of games of tug-of-war!

We then moved into the Chadar Ochel for Aruchat Erev (dinner).  The kids sat by team for an “etiquette dinner”, in which kids were challenged to eat without forks!  (Personally I found it surprisingly easy to eat chicken with just a spoon and a knife!)

After dinner, the kids had joyous medurot (campfires) by team.

The scene has a lively, communal summer camp atmosphere.

It’s been an incredible day!  I suspect everyone around camp will sleep well tonight.  We’re excited for tomorrow!
