Wednesday was our first Yom Meyuchad of the kayitz (summer) — a special day across camp in with our madrichim/ot (counselors) planned all sorts of fun peulot (activities) for our chanichim/ot (campers)!

Here are some highlights from across the machane (camp):

Kochavim (rising 3rd and 4th graders): Kochavim had Yom Harry Potter! All of the Kochavim chanichim (campers) got to go through a day at Hogwarts — where they were able to make potions, learn spells, go through challenges, and more!

Ilanot (rising 5th graders): In Ilanot, we had a real life game of Clue!  The chanichim were divided into kvutzot (groups) and had to talk with various madrichim (counselors), who were all dressed up as different suspects.  Each team had to complete tasks in order to get clues to help deduce which of the counselor suspects was guilty! The kids had really good time together !

Solelim (rising 6th graders): Solelim celebrated Yom World Cup where we learned about different countries, dressed in the different country colors, competed in different events, and had lots of fun!

Shoafim (rising 7th graders): In Shoafim, we launched the It’s a Good Life Chug, a long-standing special Shoafim tradition!!  This special chug is only offered to adat ha-Shoafim.  Co-Director Josh Edelglass has been running this chug, along with that year’s Rosh Shoafim, for decades.  There has always been only one way to join this special silly chug: campers are challenged to write a twenty-two-and-a-half-word essays on a creative canvas of their choice (paper is not allowed).  We were bowled over by all the campers’ creativity and silliness as they crafted their entries!

Amitzim: In Amitzim, we learned about camp and the things we enjoy through Yom Mockumentary! We filming all of our peulot throughout the whole day, and we were able to watch the final product at the end!  Here, take a look:

Magshimim (rising 8th graders): In an all-day tzrif (bunk) versus tzrif reality TV show themed competition, the chanichim participated in all sorts of different events: a relay race inspired by The Amazing Race, candy sushi-making, making inspired by all their favorite cooking shows, and so much more!

Bogrim (rising 9th graders): In Bogrim we had Yom Game Show, in which the chanichim got to play and compete in a variety of different game shows.  Then they were able create their own game show & compete against the other groups!

Machon (rising 10th graders): This week, Machon had Yom “Build Rome in One Yom”, a Yom Meuchad (special day) based around the phrase “you can’t build Rome in a day.” The campers decorated togas for a madrich/a (counselor) fashion show, played soccer games where each quarter was based on an ancient school of philospohy, debated like in the Roman Senate, and went to an auction at the Roman Forum!  Here’s a look at some of tzevet Machon, getting into the spirit:

Nivonim (rising 11th graders): Our chanichim were excited to step into leadership roles across camp this week as they began CITing (or what we call being MiNis — madrichim b’Nivonim) for Tzad Aleph & Tikvah tzrifim!  The Nivonim MiNis spent much of the day on Monday with their tzrifim, getting to know the kids and counselors.  They returned to their tzrifim on Wednesday, and also ran two full hours of incredible programming for all of these edot & chanichim on Wednesday morning!  Each group of MiNis ran a special peulat tzrif (bunk activity) for the bunk they’re MiNi-ing for, and also a peulat edah (activity for their whole division) for their edah as well!  We’re so proud of the amazing programming the Nivonimers ran, and what great leaders and role models they’ve already become for our younger chanichim!
